ATEC 30 days later – 69
Some of my notes during those 30 days:
Day 4 – Starting today, he is requesting things using 2 words, (we've had a handful of one word requests for about a year but 2 word phrases have always been rare and 90% prompted), he's answering the question, "what is your name?" He's pointing to body parts without a reward (this drill has always had to be heavily rewarded), and this morning he said "Love you" twice to me, not modeled or prompted.
Day 8 – He is sitting in the baby pool outside with his siblings taking turns with the water hose. There's some over the top screaming when he gets sprayed unexpectedly, but overall, he's enjoying participating with them rather than playing alone!
Day 9 – Noticing more awareness – He's actually watching tv with his siblings instead of just blankly looking around. He was watching the cat, bent down to look under his sister's bed at the cat and called, "Kitty" Then he imitated me when I wiggled my fingers against the floor and called the cat. ABA therapist reports he is talking more today.
Day 10 – He came in from outside, lifted up his foot and said, "shoes off socks off'!!!" Even heavily prompted he has never strung four words together. Ever.
Day 18 – No longer parallel playing! He actively interacts with sister during play.
Day 22 – Took the kids to a pizza place. Instead of clinging to me and/or screaming the whole time, T independently went to kids' area and played with toys, cleaned up on his own, sat quietly while we ate, and held my hand in the parking lot when we left.
4 years, 4 months -
Continued improvement:
Day 53 – 3 word phrases
Day 62 – Answers “No” rather than screaming
Day 79 – Dressing self from waist down
4 years, 5 months -
Sudden regression:
Screaming
Head-banging
Back to 1 word talking
I. Am. Clueless.
4 years, 6 months -
90 day ATEC after new protocol: 80
Increase in ATEC due to sudden behaviors.
This occurred the month he began his new Montessori preschool and come to find out, he was being given snacks that are not allowed on the diet.
Pulled him from preschool and stopped current protocol to work on straightening up the diet.
GFCFSF
Sugar-free
Nothing processed
No grains
Low phenols
4 years, 7 months -
Screaming stopped within three days of cutting out phenols
4 years, 9 months -
Ready to resume previous protocol after severe regression due to diet infractions.
ATEC at this point – 93
ATEC 30 days later – 80
ATEC 60 days later – 66
ATEC 90 days later – 58
ATEC 6 months later - 48
Some of my notes during that 6 months:
Day 17 - His younger cousin said hi to him and he said hi back. He usually wouldn't notice someone saying hi and would need prompting to say it back.
Day 19 - Putting two word phrases together more quickly and easily
Day 23 - Said "Help get down please" while riding his bike
Day 28 - Followed his first multi-step direction: Go downstairs, get your dinosaur, and bring it up here
Day 37 - He knocked on the bathroom door and I said, "Who is it?" He replied by saying his nickname.
Day 46 - I can officially say T "initiates activities" and "shares interests"! He drug his dad into the front room wanting to play with his remote control helicopter. He said, "I want copter please" and Joel started flying it for him. He was laughing and loving it. Then as I was walking through the room he ran over, grabbed me, and pulled me over to watch! He didn't need my help, he just wanted me to see! He's never cared to do that before.
Day 60 - He did awesome at the carnival! He didn't really want to do the bounce house but he watched the reptile show and fit right in! He even gasped and covered his mouth when the big snake was brought out.
Day 61 - Biggest improvements this month have been in speech! He went from 2 word phrases to consistent 4-6 word phrases/sentences this month!
Day 71 - Huge gain today - T actually asked (not in so many words but he made himself clear) to spend the night with mawmaw and pawpaw! His siblings spend the night over there all the time but T has never shown an interest and always clings to me. Today they were over and as they were leaving, my husband jokingly said, "Hey take a kid or two with you!" and T jumped up, grabbed pawpaw's hand and said things like "go" and "please" and walked outside with them and got in the car! He was so excited to go. His first sleep over! Such a "normal" thing to want to spend the night with mawmaw and pawpaw :)
Day 90 - Had fun today at Bounce U. Last time we went to Bounce U he freaked out but today HE LOVED IT!
Day 101 - T actually held the baby today (4 months old) He kept saying, "I want baby" and holding his arms out. I put the baby in his arms and he was laughing and smiling. So glad that he is interested in the baby now! (He usually completely ignores him)
Day 135 - T is back to screaming all the time. I have no idea what's wrong, nothing has changed. Screaming, grabbing his forehead, covering his eyes... Also seems somewhat OCD lately. Lining up his food, having to hold my arm a certain way, needing to place things a certain way before he can eat or drink, etc... Sometimes he will scream and then instantly laugh, laughing while the tears from screaming are still rolling down his face :( No idea what is triggering the screaming and mood swings. His ears and teeth have been checked and are fine.
Had a consultation and realized the bacon he was eating every day was not diet-friendly. Pulled the bacon and the screaming was drastically reduced (from about 100% to 60%) two days later.
Screaming down to one episode per day by day 3.
Day 150 - Can officially completely dress himself!
Day 180 - Resumed previous chelation method
Two months later:
Age 5 1/2 -
T suddenly started having rapid eye movements side to side and up and down which resembled possible seizures. EEG was clear but MRI showed several small, dark spots on the brain.
NMD tested for Lyme Disease - Blood work came back positive
(Our NMD had suggested testing for Lyme when he was three because his autism was gradual and present from very early on, not a sudden regression at 18-24 months. We opted not to test for Lyme at that point because we thought a blood draw would be traumatic for a three year old and the odds of the results being positive were low. Boy do I regret that decision!)
Stopped current parasite/virus/bacteria protocol but continued diet and chelation
Began 6 month antibiotic for Lyme
ATEC at this point - 48
It was apparent day 2 of his antibiotic that this was working.
"His aggression has disappeared and he is happy. For the first time in his life, we can say he is a happy kid."
ATEC after 6 months of antibiotics - 44
Began using liquid garlic drops to control viruses, yeast, and bacteria
April 2015 - Age 6 -
Started new detox protocol
ATEC at this point - 44
30 days of IonCleanse detox foot baths
Gains during that 30 days:
"He's making his bed!"
"He played ball with the family for 45 minutes, laughing and smiling, totally understood the game and joined in."
"Was amazing at the splash pad!"
ATEC at this point - 40
Adding advanced TRS this month.
ATEC update coming soon.
